Description
On 30th November 1972 Dave Holland went into a New York studio with some of the best free jazz musicians around to record his debut album as a leader. The title 'Conference of the Birds' is a reference to the dawn chorus which Holland remembers from his days living in London as birds declaring their freedom in song, a spirit he wished to communicate through his music.
With saxophonists Anthony Braxton and Sam Rivers and percussionist Barry Altschul, he created an album that still sounds fresh and exciting, full of nimble and passionate playing, all punctuated by Altschul's precise and penetrating percussion. As the 'music-aficionado' blog states: "Conference of the Birds is one of my favourite pieces of music in any genre, and certainly a great moment in free jazz history."
As the pics show, the cover has some damage on the open edge, where the plastic sleeve which has protected the cover has an opening. There is also slight discolouration on the 'closed edge' of the cover, also visible from the photos. Happy to say the LP itself is in far better condition, gradable as 'Very Good Plus' according to the discogs definition.
