Description

An original very 1st press of Hunky Dory from Xmas 1971. Matrix 3T/3T - 1st cut. 1st pressing is denoted by finding 'Bobil/Rasputin' etchings in the deadwax - as you find here. The bonus with these earliest copies is that they were pressed super heavy - bonus! Note the 'Titanic' publishing on the labels as you should find on early Bowie records. Hard to believe but early copies of  'Hunky Dory' are hard to find because Bowie was still far from the main stream in '71. He would have to wait for summer '72 and the advent of Stardust before hitting it big. There is one earlier incarnation of this cover that you can find - a front laminated sleeve [but these only made a very brief appearance at 1st release]. This cover is original 1st issue [unlaminated] without the Mainman logo on the rear. We also have the original generic white inner and the lyric sheet too. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex+) In super condition bearing in mind the title and relative vintage. It has seen light use and only exhibits a couple of light marks per side - nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveal an at least, EXCELLENT level of playback with one slight deviation. Intros and inbetweens are lovely and quiet and the audio comes across with excellent clarity. You can find decent copies of the 1st press - but what is tricky is finding the ones that have been cared for so well that the mega fussy tracks play clean. I'm thinking "8 Line Poem" and Bewley Brothers. When those two play clean you're onto a winner! A clean 1st pressing is capable of amazing audio. Beautifully recorded this rich production is allowed to flourish and will totally wow you. Very little to take issue with. A couple of crackles in a couple of isolated moments per side. I think I picked up one minor isolated tick on side 1. Let me assure you - it's not all copies can manage a rendition like this consistently. A supreme performer. If you are looking for the best audio that can be delivered from this classic title - take close note of this example<<<<<.
Cover (Ex) A total nightmare to find in decent condition. Not quite sure why - but the original HD covers are so so hard to find in decent condition. This is example is way way better than what typically surfaces. A beautifully clean and unaged front. Barely a crease and, unusually, hardly any sign of surface wear - just a couple of tiny thumbnails. The rear looks equally good and often suffers foxing - NOT here! Clean and well preserved. Minimal edge wear as is very unusual on this title. Sharp firm openings. Spine is 99% intact...that just never happens. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity.
Insert (Vg+) Relatively little sign of ageing. A couple of surface tears in one corner.
Inner (Vg) Aged. No splits.
