Description

An original 1st press of HD on the UK RCA label from 1971. Remember - this is pre-STARDUST. Bowie would go onto find fame in the second half of 1972 as Stardust. But in '71 he was no better than hovering at the bottom of the charts. Which is made all the more strange when you listen to HD - because it is one of the best Lps he ever made. Matrix 3T/3T. Etchings "Bobil/Rasputin" - this is indicative of very earliest pressing. Yes, it has the early Titanic publishing credit - but it's those etchings that identify the very earliest copies. Whilst the cover it comes with is almost identical in looks to a 1st issue - there is one inconsistency. On the rear in the bottom right corner - there's the Mainman logo. Now, 'Mainman' only comes into the picture around summer 1972 as Stardust takes off. So, I would assume this cover has been swapped out and comes from approximately 1 year after 1st release. We also have an original generic white inner and the light brown lyric sheet.
Vinyl (Ex) A lovely looking copy which has only seen light use. Under close inspection I can only make out a couple of light marks per side - nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals an EXCELLENT level of playback. A beautiful player throughout - and why would you want to compromise on this title? Intros and inbetweens are lovely and quiet and the audio comes across with excellent clarity. You won't find many copies playing at this level - it is impressively clean. The usual problem areas are 'Eight Line Poem' and 'Bewley Brothers'... these are incredibly difficult to find playing clean. BOTH play back totally clean [like, way better than what you tend to usually find]. A beautiful player with very little to take issue with at all. Just beautiful clean audio and fantastic music from Bowie. Highly recommended!
Cover (Vg+) And even when you do find a great sounding LP - the cover on this title is often a wee bit disappointing. But this example is in very rude health. A lovely clean and flat front with just lightest handling evidence in those black sectors. The rear is even better and totally free from that annoying foxing. Edge wear is pretty minor for this title. The openings are still firm and the spine is fully intact. Only the 'I' of David is rendered illegible. Overall the cover retains perfect rigidity. Highly impressive.
Inner (Vg+) Aged, but no splits.
Insert (Ex-) Lightest evidence of ageing. Nothing nasty.
