Description

You are bidding on an original David Bowie vinyl lp from 1970, "The Man Who Sold The World." The album has been issued with at least three covers; this Mercury Stereo version has the cartoon picture of a man on the cover. This edition is Mercury SR 61325. My recollection is of purchasing this when it came out; if I am reading Discogs correctly, this is the original issue. ("Oh By Jingo").
You may recognize the title track from Nirvana's cover at the MTV "Unplugged" convert.
The outer cover is in very good condition for it's age; please see picture.  There is light fading from age, and some separation on the  bottom of the cover, and slight peeling on the corner.  There is a small "cutout" hole punched in the bottom right hand corner of the cover.  Please see photo.
The album is incredibly clean; and has been stored in a plastic  cover for many years. It is on the old Mercury Label, with the red inner label.

"By 1970 David Bowie was already hinting at his talent as a master pop manipulator.  "Space Oddity," released in 1969, showed a performer with a keen sense of  cultural detail (we had just put a man on the moon), but THE MAN WHO SOLD  THE WORLD signaled Bowie's full entry into the rock domain. The album's eclectic  pop stylings provedBowie to be not only a watchful observer, but also a hip  modifier of pop music trends.THE MAN WHO SOLD THE WORLD is a gritty tour  through late '60s rockisms. The folky title track is wary and sensitive, while the  bombastic "The Supermen" mixes crushing drums and Allman Brothers-esque  guitar chimes. "All The Madmen" is Bowie at his vulnerable, evocative best, and  "Black Country Rock" stomps along with the best of the White Boy Blues contingent. While it did not yet approach the space-age sci-fi atmosphere of Bowie's future releases, THE MAN WHO SOLD THE WORLD reaffirmed the themes introduced with "Space Oddity" and served as the launching pad for one of rock's most enigmatic and durable performers"
