Description

You are  bidding on a 12” vinyl LP of David Bowie's album, The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars. Surely one of the all time great albums. I know some copies of this album are really collectable. Please read fully and carefully, the description and condition below.

This is from  my own personal collection. It’s time to make  some  space so sadly I am selling  my vinyl  collection. Please check out my other   items  for sale and there are many more to follow, so keep  checking back.

Tracks:

Side 1 – Five Years : Soul Love : Moonage Daydream : Starman : It Ain't Easy

Side 2 - Lady Stardust : Star : Hang On To Yourself : Ziggy Stardust : Suffragette City : Rock 'n' Roll Suicide

I am not a  record dealer and I am not an expert at  grading records. I will give as much  information as possible to assist in  identifying particular albums and an  honest opinion as to condition. I know there are specific clues on this album that the collectors of rare vinyl are looking for so will try to explain fully.

For the vinyl collectors looking in,  the following information is available:

Label: RCA Victor.

Orange label. White RCA Victor. Black track list. (Side 1) "1-4 MainMan/Chrysalis 5 Rondor Music" Below that is "A Gem Production" This appears to be an important factor for collectors. (Side 2) "1-6 MainMan/Chrysalis" and below that "A Gem Production"

Although MainMan is mentioned on the label, I can't see any mention of MainMan on the cover or the inner sleeve. The outer cover only mentions "A Gem Production" and the original inner sleeve only refers to copyright 1971, 1972 by Titanic Music Limited/Chrysalis Limited. No mention of MainMan at all......so I'm confused. If you would like any further info. that will assist, please feel free to ask and I will try to help.

Year: 1972

Catalogue No: SF 8287  also has (LSP 4702) and BGBS 0864 on label (BGBS 0865 on side 2).

Additional  Matrix number information: (Side 1) A/BGBS-0864-6E and A/AJ is also scratched in. (Side 2) B/BGBS 0865-4E also scratched in, is what looks like A2 followed by possibly the letter Q, but it looks more like a round lollipop on a stick.

I don't know what number pressing this is (I see contrasting descriptions on eBay) so, from the info. I've given I hope the collectors  will be able to identify. My guess is, it is not a First Pressing, but it may well be an "early pressing".

Stereo.

Condition: Please read carefully.

Record: Visually both labels are very clean. On the vinyl there is light finger marking. There are various hairline and light scuff marks. I have played this album all the way through. It plays very well, with no jumping, skipping or sticking. In the track "Five Years", quite near the start I heard 4 or 5 "clicks". I didn't hear any other clicks throughout the rest of the album. Overall it was a very clean sound.

Cover: It is the matt cover. As stated above it has "A Gem Production" on the reverse, but no mention of MainMan. The front and back of the cover are essentially clean. However. There is an indentation mark running horizontally across the album, most of the way across, just below the bottom of the titles. It's not deep, but it is noticeable. It hasn't gone through the card. It is as though the cover was used to "rest on" and a straight "ish" line was drawn with a sharp pencil or pen nib on a piece of paper above it. The indentation has come through the paper (but no pencil mark or ink!). So there is a very thin pen nib size "score" indentation. That's about the best way I can describe it. There is a shorter, less visible one below it, about half way down and slightly diagonal. They are not  what I would call "serious" but as I say, they are noticeable so it is only right I mention them. There is some white marking shelf wear to bottom edge. The top edge is very good. The corners shown absolute minimal wear. The spine is very good and all text is clearly readable. There is minor creasing around the edges.

Inner sleeve: Original inner sleeve. As stated above refers to All songs copyright 1971, 1972 by Titanic Music Limited/Chrysalis Limited. No mention of MainMan at all. A Gem Production is written vertically (tiny) next to the picture of Mick Ronson. Photos and R&R Suicide lyrics one side, and all other lyrics on revers. No splits to sides. There is a diagonal crease (bottom r/h corner) and some minor wear to top r/h corner.

Compared with how others grade LP’s on eBay I would  say this is VGC. I have little doubt some would grade higher.

For the reasons explained above, this isn’t a“mint” album, but it is a very respectable looking and playing album. Apologies for being "long-winded" with the descriptions, but I try to be as honest and as accurate as possible.

If  you would  like any further information regarding this  item, please feel free to ask and I  will do my best to answer your  questions.

Describing  the condition of items is very subjective.(one man’s treasure is another man’s junk etc). I will always try to be as  honest as possible in describing the  items. I  would rather be honest from the outset, than  end up with a  disappointed winning  bidder. I buy  things on eBay as well and would expect the  same honesty from others.

There is no  reserve on this item.

Items will  be dispatched by Royal Mail First Class post. I  will obtain a receipt for  postage, but  cannot accept  responsibility for  items not delivered. I understand  “standard”  first class mail is insured for  items  up to a value of £20.00. If you would  prefer  items  insured   for more, tracked,  special delivery, recorded and “signed for”  delivery, please contact me    prior to paying.

If   my  starting bid is over £20.00 I  will include a postage price that will cover  for  "Signed For" postage (this  insures for upto £50) and if the starting bid  or final bid is over £50 I will  send via Special Delivery which I believe  insures for up to £500.00.

All albums are dispatched in sturdy cardboard mailers with additional stiffeners, to  ensure safe  arrival. The cost of this packaging is included in the postage price.

Winning  bidders must pay within three days of end of  auction or the item will be  relisted and  negative feedback left.

Instant PayPal payments only  please. I do not accept cheques in any  form (including eCheques)

International  bidders MUST please contact me prior to  bidding for postage costs. I will only ship  to Europe and Worldwide via International “signed for” airmail and this can be a  costly  business.

Thank you for looking. Good luck and happy bidding.
