This was originally released in 1996 as a 4LP set in the US only then when Dr Dre and Eminem were back in the limelight a second wave of pressings of the Death Row catalogue were released in 2001/2002 with some titles being pressed in the UK for the first time by Simply Vinyl. There has been a further pressing since which is a far more compressed and digital sounding record and identified on the front cover as "Digitally Remastered". The record was also split into 2 volumes, the first volume also listed in my other items.
This Simply Vinyl is the version you want as it sounds fantastic, as well as the original US if you can find one. I have original pressings of The Chronic and Doggystyle and the sound is amongst the best I've heard across all genre's and this compilation is very similar in it's quality. There are not many of these pre-digital examples for sale so quite a rare find. There is a sealed listing of both volumes for over $200 but all other listings are the Digital Remasters that I can find on international ebay.
This second volume sold in far less quantities compared to the first volume and is now a very rare collectors item and is valued higher than the original 4LP, possibly due to the unusual purple cover. This is a really nice example in great condition and would make a great investment and collectors piece.
All of my records are play tested on a Project Debut Carbon with 2M Red stylus which is quite revealing so any sound defects may be more exaggerated than on other more mainstream players. Or conversely if you are a full on audiophile I will let you judge how your set up compares and how you envisage the sound will compare.
I don't currently have access to a cleaning machine so please forgive any dust or finger marks which are on any of my records - hopefully will be investing in one at some point.
Record Appearance - VG+ Really nice condition just a couple of very light scratches stop this from being Near Mint which don't effect play. The glossy finish is as new and the record sits tightly on the spindle indicating very little use. Labels are in great condition with the stunning contrasting blue colour.
Record Audio - NM Lovely quiet record just some dust spoiling the party but I don' like to hand clean records I am selling. Great sound quality with full rich bass you only get from the early Death Row pressings. Simply Vinyl take pride in creating re-issues which compare to the originals or surpass them and this is no exception.
Record Sleeve - VG+/NM Very close to Near Mint with only minimal shelf wear with a little scuff on the corners. Edges and spine are in great condition and only slight ring wear under a bright light. Records are stored in card picture sleeves which are in great condition.
