Ritchie Blackmore of Deep Purple and Rainbow Ritche Blackmores first band was the Lancaster's in 1964 Blackmore was probably barely 18 years old at the time. (Nicky Hopkins was also in the band a keyboard player that worked with the Rolling Stones for years) The band's first record was "Satan's Holiday / Earthshaker and was released
in 1964 with the famous record producer Kim Fowley. The band barely existed and this was the only record ever released. Within a year of the 7" 45 release Blackmore was playing with Jon Lord..within a couple years Deep Purple would be formed in approximately 1967
Earthshaker was an instrumental that was influenced by Chuck Berry. Satan's Holiday was a high wattage adaptation of "In the Hall of the Mountain King" (A song Blackmore played for most of his career)
Kim Fowley who produced the 7" 45 was always ahead of his time; Making Freakbeat, garage, instrumental, progressive. He is responsible for the careers of Joan Jett and the Runaways. He worked with Kiss, Alice Cooper, Leon Russell, Kris Kristofferson, and Helen Reddi. He produced three songs for American Graffiti including "LOUIE LOUIE"
There is a lot of history in this record. It is M- and never played. It is in extremely high demand. I found it in a record store in the 1990's in Richmond, VA. The guy who owned the store literally had probably 2500 square feet of boxes with just 45's with no sleeves. The guy smoked like a chimney. I used to spend hours in the store...shit was just everywhere..unfortunately those fun days are long gone.
