Description

An original 1st press LIVE ALBERT HALL on UK Harvest label from 1970. Matrix A1/B1. If you are looking for absolute 1st press then you need to find labels WITHOUT the EMI logo - these are the earliest. Stampers 1-AM/2-AR. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original gatefold cover printed by E J Day. The left opening is glued shut forming a nice solid front panel. There's a generic white inner from the time too.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex-) Ok, so remember this is predominantly orchestral release - this genre is way fussier than standard rock. You'll need a clean original copy - and this one has been only lightly used and has been taken care of. Under close inspection there are a couple of very light marks per side - this about as good as it is humanly possible to find. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT level of playback with a couple of deviations per side. Again, don't under estimate a grading at Ex on this release. Many copies may LOOK good, but do they play good? Large sections of this title are extremely low-key so you're going to need a particularly well looked after copy to stand even half a chance of a properly clean rendition. And this example is as good as I've witnessed. It's not perfect - but hey.. no copy will be perfect unless it was never played. This copy is most importantly clean signalled - no extraneous noise in the signal. Lots of power and low-level detail. I could only detect a few very low level crackles in that clarinet intro at start of side 1. It's a superb little player - most copies will not hit this level. All I could detect were a few minor crackles in one isolated spot per side [e.g. later stages of side 1]. There's a couple of very low-level ticks on the side 1 intro and one solitary click later in the same track. A couple of slight ticks in track 1 side 2. Highly recommended.
Cover (Ex-) Nice shiny front with good colour retention and minimal creasing. The rear exhibits just a couple of thumbnail creases at the opening edge. The interior looks great - only very slight handling and a tiny signature top right. Very little edge wear and sharp openings. All text on the spine fully legible. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity.
Inner (Vg+) Light ageing no splits.
