Osibisa was formed in London, England in 1969. The nucleus of the band was from Ghana, others, like the unbelievable guitarist Wendell Richardson, came from Antigua.

Wendell Richardson, the band's simply stunning lead guitarist, was at one stage lured away by British rockers FREE.

Hi Folks, My Name is Wendell Richardson, but I now use the pseudonym DELL RICHARDSON, my Band is . In my time as a lead guitarist and vocalist, I have had the great good fortune to have played with some greats like Ike and Tina Turner, Stevie Wonder, The Free, War, Three Dog Night, The Last Poets. One of my most memorable gigs was the Mari Sol Festival to 450,000 in Puerto Rico and FESTAC Nigeria, 1977 and the story continues....below will inform you how my career as a guitarist/vocalist lead me to my playing as a professional Solo act, though at times I do have different guest on my show.

I Grew up in north London, first gig was with Calvin and Phillip at The Odeon at Stamford Hill, second gig was with Gaspa Lawal then a drummer and Percussionist, at a place in Dalston called: The Rambling Rose, and played there when the name change to 4 aces also, Joe Young & the Tonics was playing at the All Stars Club in Liverpool Street EC1, and an invitation to a Jam session with Conrad Isadore, and Calvin Samuel which later developed into The Sundae Times, my very first band a Three piece we were one of the very first 1969 we went to Israel, after signing with President Records ALBUM , by 1970 we played our last Gig at Bagonails as the Sundae Times. I think in that Audience there was two members of the Beatles, Steven Stills, and the following day I read in the Mirror that British Black Bassist joins Crosby Stills Nash & Young, days later Conrad Isidore was off to the States with Joe Cocker.

Obviously how ever good a Guitarist I might of been, I was left with a Transit filled of equipment including Conrad's kit, and Fuzzy's Bass amp, Fuzz is Calvin Samuel, I met a drummer who plays with a Band called Ginger Bakers Air Force Band, his name Remi Kabaka, my adventure to African RHYTHMS, Remi Kabaka quick talking soldier, introduce me to Teddy Osei, Sol Amafio, Mack Tontoh and Spartacus R, it was the house of Remi Salako and Peggy in Finsbury Park, I met Robert Bailey on a session in Denmark Street, he played on my session, later he needed my Van to carry his Hammond, and eventually I introduce him to the band, of which he later became one of the beautiful seven, my name then was Wendell Richardson founder member of Osibisa.

I had in my possession a van with a PA system, microphones,Drums,Bass Amp,Guitar amps.Later we met a Man CALLED Tommy Weber,he booked us into Morgan Studio, and we did our very first demo as Osibisa it was on that session that Loughty Amau joined us on percussion and Baritone sax. We were eventually signed with M.C.A.Records release 4 albums with MCA, 0sibisa, Woyaya, Heads, and I was gone before Super fly tnt, went on a Tour to the USA with the famous FREE and after that did my first Solo Album Pieces of a Jig-saw.

Rejoin Osibisa then 1975 Kiki Gyan was the Keyboardist, Koffie Ayivor on Percussion, the new players we recorded Sunshine day and was a chart success,we also did the Coffee Song also a chart Success, Ojah Awake, CD THEN CAME A :LIVE ALBUM at the Royal Festival Hall, called BLACK Magic Night 1977 after this album i left Osibisa for the second time. And went of to Holland and studied the development of computer generated music. By 1992 I left Holland for Antigua and eventually started producing music on behalf of N.E.C.I.Musicltd and did three CDs the first was OMOWALE' the 2nd was odello Super groove, and the third was a gospel CD ALL HAIL, It is amazing what you can do with a little inspiration and love for music
