Description

Super rare first issue of the complete two LP recording of Delibes famous Ballet Coppelia ,on the deep maroon and silver Mercury Living Presence stereo label.The revolutionary recording process, many decades ahead of its time, offers full range stereo recorded using threeTelefunken condenser microphones hanging over the orchestra  feeding directtly into the three track tape recording console without any volume level attenuation or frequency filtering. The result is true stereo exapctly as it was performed with correct hall ambiance captured prerfectly. The musical performance is conveyed without any artificial tampering whatsoever. Thie master tapee was then cut into a record using a Scully variable pitch lathe again with no attenuation or tampering of any kind.  The result is stunning wide range stereo of unbelievable rewlism, that most digital recordings cannot match.

These records in the original cuttings are difficult to track because of their wide dynamic range. the impact is stunning. Later pressing of this series of records especially those mastered by Columbia have been degraded in bass frequencies and with reduced  dynamics to ensure tracking with the cheap consumer stereo available at that time. It is important to get this set in the original master stamper series to ensure the full living presence effect. 
This is the complete recording in full living presence stereo sound.  Recorded December 21st and 22nd 1957 in the glorious acoustics of Northrop Hall Auditorium on the campus of the University of Minnesota.. Triple Terack Master  Ampex tape machines,
