This handsome LP from Westminster (WST-17067, US pressing, black label, stereo) features pianist Jörg Demus’ sublime renditions of Bach’s Partitas No. 1 in B-flat Major BWV 825, No. 2 in C minor BWV 826, and No. 4 in D Major BWV 828, warmly recorded in the fine acoustics of the Mozartsaal, Vienna, in September 1962.

These are beautifully pointed performances – playing that resonates in the mind long after the music has stopped – the sound is absolutely first rate.

This album was produced and engineered by Peter Curiel. The cover design was executed by ARW Productions and there are insightful liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by Irving Kolodin, Music Editor of the Saturday Review – printed in English only.

CONDITION – PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the jacket is VERY GOOD-. There is edgwear, more so at corners, as well as some discoloration and scuffing to the rear panel. However, there are no seamsplits, bends, owners' markings, or other defects, and the album remains solid, bright, glossy, and highly attractive – overall, a very good collector's copy.

The condition of the LP itself is near-MINT. Though the surfaces are not perfectly silent (and thus I have rated it NM vs. MINT) this is a fine copy and playback is superb. If you must have perfect surfaces, then please do not buy this LP. Overall, this rates as a NM collector's copy.

This LP has been carefully cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. All LPs are provided with a new Nagaoka (or Nagaoka-style) inner sleeve.
