Description
For sale is Derek and the Dominos' Layla, originally released in 1970 by Atco Records in a gate-fold presentation. In the dead wax between the label and the last track are the matrix numbers 1-B/1-B (Disc 1) and 1-C/1-B (disc 2). This indicates than these records had early stampers that were used for these pressings. This is a hallmark of superior sound quality, sought after by collectors and music lovers. I bought this new, and like all my albums, cleaned it and immediately put it away into a protective inner sleeve. This protects the integrity of the vinyl and any original inner sleeve(s) or insert(s) that may have come with the record. There are no original inner sleeves with this listing. The cover is graded as VG+ because of ring wear, edge wear, corner rubs and two seams splits. One is about 4" on the top of the front cover and the other is about 2" on the top of the back cover. The spine has color loss from these stress cracks and rubs. The vinyl is graded as VG+ because there are surface scratches which occasionally produce the dreaded snap crackle and pop associated with vinyl, but still very listenable. As a matter of fact, I just finished listening to this and it still sounds great. Like all my records, it's been professionally re-cleaned on my VPI machine and played on state-of-the-art audiophile equipment while I owned it. This is still one of the best copies of this album that I have ever seen or heard and you would be hard pressed to find one in this condition. I've been collecting records for about 50 years now and have always cleaned them and put them away carefully in plastic inner sleeves. Over the years I've used Dust Bugs, Disc Washers and have finally invested in a professional VPI record cleaning machine. Now that I'm retiring, I'm selling my very esoteric collection. I'm not a professional grader of records, but will use record guides, as well as my personal experiences as a basis of my grading all records. Since grading is subjective, I will be conservative.
