Description:
Extremely scarce 1960s Detroit soul 45 by The Five Bucks — “Now You’re Mine” b/w “No Use in Tryin’” on Afton Records (catalog # none listed). Both sides written by Kerr, Hearn, and Rose. Original Afton mint-green label with distinctive boxed layout and hand-etched runout markings: “FY #2”/ “Love Struggle – Detroit Michigan 1967.”
Pressed in very small numbers for local radio play and distribution around Detroit. A raw, heartfelt Northern soul gem that bridges garage, doo-wop, and early R&B — the kind of record that turns up once in a blue moon.
Condition: “no use in trying” is clean. noticeable scratch for the first half of “now you’re mine” but no skips. light scuffs and faint label bubbling as shown, plays through strong with some minor background surface noise. No deep scratches. Clean spindle holes.
From the private collection of a legendary Detroit crate-digger and one-time DJ, known for preserving rare 45s using tape to protect labels and etching the year of release in the dead wax. A true piece of Motor City music history.
“This is a piece of rock history from an epic collection of rare 45’s, filled with DJ copies and promos of early northern soul, doo-wop, rockabilly, Detroit garage and psyche rock.”
