Description

Up for sale is an original 1966 first pressing of THE JuJus – “I’m Really Sorry” / “Do You Understand Me” on the UNITED label out of Grand Rapids, Michigan. This is a genuine Midwest teen-garage relic — the kind of raw, jangly, basement-wired energy collectors crave.

Condition:

Record grades VG. Light surface marks, nothing deep. Plays through with that warm, unruly garage texture that only a true ’66 survivor carries. Labels show age, small sticker residue, and penciled notation — all consistent with its history and handling.

Deadwax / Matrix:

• Side A: ZTSC-121570-1A (machine-stamped)

• Side B: ZTSC-121569-1A (machine-stamped)

Includes hand-etched “1966” from the record’s previous owner — part of the preservation style used by a legendary Detroit crate-digger and one-time DJ whose archive was famous for early garage, soul, and psych. This copy bears the exact telltale marks (penciled dates, edge taping on some discs, careful etches) that identify a keeper from his shelves. The story adds provenance and places this firmly in “a piece of rock history from an epic collection of rare 45’s, filled with dj copies and promos of early northern soul, doo-woo, rockabilly, detroit garage and psyche rock.”

Details:

• Label: United, James Geeting production (945 Kenwood, Grand Rapids, MI).

• Year: 1966 (confirmed by deadwax and historical release data).

• Style: Michigan teen-garage, highly sought after by Midwest collectors.

• No known reissues with these exact plates — this is the real deal.

This 45 is prized for its snarling guitars, urgent vocals, and pure DIY Michigan spirit. The JuJus were part of the same West Michigan teen-band constellation that produced The Quests, The Legends, and other fuzz-clad regional heroes.

If you collect garage rock, Michigan obscurities, teen-band fuzz, or United label oddities, this is a cornerstone piece.
