Description

Up for auction is a rare vinyl copy of the Devil Doll masterpiece Dies irae. This album was released by Hurdy Gurdy Records as HG10LP in 1996 in a limited edition of 350 copies. Wrapped in a handsome gatefold sleeve and accompanied by an A4 lyric sheet. The cover is in near mint condition, the record is very good with some insignificant surface marks. The music, as you most certainly know, is a unique form of symphonic rock charged with gothic bombast and cinematic suspense. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate. (I received the following question, and decided to make it public with my reply because of its importance. If any of you current bidders come into second thoughts because of this, you are free to cancel your bids. Sorry for all the confusion.) The question: "Hello! I am very interested in this LP. I've already bought 2 other Devil Doll LPs, but one was unplayed and the second was MINT. Visible marks prevent an LP from being Near Mint (NM) or Mint Minus (M-). (You wrote: The cover is in near mint condition, the record is very good with some insignificant surface marks.) So your wording confuse me because if the surface marks are insignificant and do NOT affect play, then the LP would be Excellent Plus (EX+). (Then there is also EX and some use VG+++ or and VG++ which is probably complicating it to much.) If you can hear very few light noises then it goes down to VG+ and so on. But Very Good alone is not really nice. (There is some variation in grading standards but there is also some generally accepted guidelines.) Please describe in more detail. Have you played it? Do you hear any light clicks in quiet passages or hear harder cracks... Please kindly provide as much information as you can. Thank you!" My reply: "Ok, I played the album through. I did not hear any harder cracks. In the more quiet passages you can certainly tell that it's a vinyl lp playing - then again, I have never heard a vinyl record where you couldn't hear this. By the above standards, I would rate the lp EX or EX+. (For what it's worth, I bought this lp for my own enjoyment back in the mid 90s. It was never in heavy rotation but it has been played.) While at it, I realise that my description of the cover may not be entirely accurate either. There are some signs of shelf life, but nothing drastic. Trying to draw correlations from the above guidelines, I would say it is EX. Again, I am very sorry for all possible confusion. Thanks for requesting clarifications."
