Description
This is the now very famous and iconic New Wave debut album from Devo. This picture disc vinyl release from Virgin Records coincided with the black vinyl releases by Warner Brothers in Great Britain and the United States. What makes this album especially fascinating is that it was produced by Brian Eno. who is known for his three famous albums with David Bowie (the Berlin years). Initially the likes of Iggy Pop, David Bowie, Brian Eno and also Rpbert Fripp, all having heard the band perform, were all interested to produce Devos first album. Bowie, however, although interested and inspired, got busy with his filming of "Just a Gigolo." He did apparently help Brian Eno produce many of the tracks and came back later and apparently re-mixed many of the tracks. Bowie was convinced that "this is the band of the future."
The album was recorded over a period of four months, October 1977 to February, 1978, and was formally released on August 28th, 1978.
This pressing comes with a paper insert "Greetings" from General Boy, a fictional character from the Devolutionary Army.
Picture disc sonic quality is not considered as good as pressings on black vinyl. These kinds of albums were designed primarily for the fan to display on their wall. This disc does play all 12 songs of the original album, of course.
