Description
Both label have New York USA address; 43 West 61st St. address at the bottom of the back cover. Mono. The record has the "ear" and "VAN GELDER" inscribed in the dead wax. 6 tracks with leader, Dexter Gordon, tenor sax; Sonny Clark, piano; Butch Warren, bass; Billy Higgins, drums.
Cover: Fair(+) 1 1/2" split at the top edge at the insert edge. 1" split on the bottom edge. 1" and 1/2" split on the spine. The back cover spine shows some paper section from the spine reglued to the edge of the back cover (see scan). The discoloration marks next to this edge appear to be from former scotch tape. The text on the back cover can be read clearly. Name of previous owner and date are written at the the top margin of the back cover. Light overall aging and light general wear from ordinary handling.
Record: VG+ to VG++ Visually the record shows moderate wear with multiple surface rub marks on both sides. Side 1, Track 1, slight crackling on the first 2 or 3 revolutions. Track 2 begins with 10 light clicks followed by 1 light click. 2 faint clicks near mid Track. These are barely audible. This is followed by 1 barely audible click towards the end of the Track. Side 2, Track 1, 2 faint isolated clicks towards the end of the Track. Track 3, faint groove noise on the last 1 or 2 revolutions. In spite of the visual appearance of the record, the noise is slight as detailed. I have graded the record conservatively. Those interested should be aware of the surface rub marks described. The overall fine quality of the sound is one of the remarkable qualities of Blue Note pressings. Audibly checked.
