Description
Out of my personal collection comes this giant of the Jazz age, a reluctant sale due to the children age taking over this house. Regarded by Dexter himself as his finest record, in large part due to the backing trio in exceptional form Go is simply a must own record from the Blue Note, and therefore jazz canon. Recorded shortly before Dexter moved to Europe for 15 years it is a landmark piece of hard-bop, swing and ballads that shows why Blue Note is the standard to which all other labels follow. Dexter was on parole, after being imprisoned for the second time in LA on drugs charges, and practically bailed to the city when he got the welcome call from Alfred Lion to come and record some sides in New York, looking for change he jumped at the chance and the result is this, as well as several other records from a fecund period that is now considered timeless. Fed up with America, like so many other artists and black jazz musicians at the time, Dexter left to the more inclusive Europe for a long time, returning to a very new jazz landscape, one that he helped shaped, and one where he is now considered one of the true giants of the sax along with Parker, Coltrane and Rollins.
Cover in incredible EX shape, heavyweight card in fine shape, Ried Miles iconic cover sparkles under shiny laminate, some very minor ageing, back slick rippling, very small Cnr ding bottom left. Vinyl is VG++, close to EX, plays NM. Has been played but very well cared for, dusting of super fine hairlines and a spidery storage marking on both sides that is hard to describe but is absolutely superficial, it has come from not being played for so long, it may even come off with a good clean. It's only visible under strong light but it must be noted, you won't be unhappy with this copy!
Original double sided NY press, ear P, van gender stamped in dead wax both sides, correct 43 West St address on back cover.
Hassle free returns and money back, if you are unhappy in any way please email me, I try my best to list accurately, cheers!
MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.
NM: Played a handful of times, several of the faintest hairlines only, perfect sound, full gloss and sheen, cover near new in every way.EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, tiniest dusting of superficial hairlines only, playback excellent. The cover and packaging might have very slight wear/most minor cosmetic wear only.
VERY GOOD+: Perfectly acceptable, plays with no skips or jumps, no feelable marks, hairlines, and other superficial scratches may be evident on the vinyl but sound quality and fidelity still excellent, may have the odd pop and crackle only. Cover will have normal wear, seams and corners in tact, some age deterioration.VERY GOOD:The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch, some may be feelable but will not sound in repeat-tic manner. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable, may have minor seam or other tears but still acceptable integrity.
GOOD:The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and feelable scratches that may tic or jump. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.
FAIR:The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise, jump etc. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and / or defaced. Collector piece only.
