ALBUM SIGNIFICANCE
The centerpiece here is "Tanya," an 18-minute opening track that stretches out with room to breathe rarely heard on a Blue Note side — one of the label's most celebrated extended jams. Recorded in Paris in 1964 while Gordon was living as an expatriate in Europe, the session paired him with a young Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen on bass, Donald Byrd, Kenny Drew, and Art Taylor. This copy is a 1966 repress, pressed shortly after Blue Note's sale to Liberty (no Plastylite ear in the dead wax). Matrix includes Van Gelder Stereo. Original 1966 Liberty pressing, BST 84176. Clean VG+ vinyl, plays strong.
