The mighty COMMINIQUE (No.5 UK, No.11 US, '79) is their 2nd album and has quite a history to it! The band had just begun to record COMMUNIQUE at Compass Point in the Bahamas when "Sultans Of Swing" from the their debut album took off in both the UK and US in early 1979. This added even more impetus to the band and added an extra sparkle in the studio with legendary producers Jerry Wexler and Barry Beckett producing a suddenly hot international act. COMMUNIQUE sold a staggering 7million copies without even generating a huge hit (although "Lady Writer" did register slightly in the lower reaches of the US Top 50). In fact, COMMUNIQUE must have been a great experience because the producers invited the whole band over to Muscle Shoals Studios to help out with Bob Dylan's "Slow Train Coming later in the year! Definitely one for the Dire `die-hards'!

Dire Straits biggest selling album ever - the phenomenal BROTHERS IN ARMS (No.1 UK, No.1 US). This superb album spent the grand total of 203 weeks in the UK charts and a respectable 55 weeks in the US charts (where it sold 7 million copies alone). BROTHERS IN ARMS was pretty much the success story of the 80's and was primarily fuelled by a slate of huge hit singles like the classic "Money For Nothing" (No.1 US, No.4 UK '85), "Walk Of Life" (No.2 UK '86, No.7 US '85) and "So Far Away" (No.19 US '86, No.20 UK '85). Obviously the production and Mark Knopfler's superlative guitar playing are exemplary as usual. Naturally it's far better to listen to an album like this and on 180 gram vinyl too -

LOVE OVER GOLD (No.1 UK, No.19 US '82) - Dire Straits fourth album and their first chart topper in the UK. LOVE OVER GOLD was also the first Dire Straits album to be 100% produced by Mark Knopler and as a result spent the best part of four years on the UK charts. The album also spawned their biggest-ever single hit with the phenomenal "Private Investigations" (No.2 UK '82). Whilst a live version of "Love Over Gold" itself became a hit in 1984. There are only five tracks on the album. They are however we should all very long with the epic "Telegraph Road" clocking in at over fourteen minutes alone. "Love Over Gold" provided the perfect stepping-stone to the next studio album - the legendary "Brothers In Arms" (which is forthcoming soon). If you're into Dire Straits then this is an essential purchase - especially on 180gram vinyl.

Welcome to Dire Straits' most successful album in chart longevity terms - the phenomenal MAKIN’ MOVIES (No.2 UK, No.19 US, '80). This album stayed on the UK charts for a breathtaking 249 weeks spawning no less than three hit singles in the process including the excellent "Romeo And Juliet" (No.8 UK, '80), "Skate Away" (No.37 UK, No. 58 US, '81) and the classic "Tunnel Of Love" (No.54 UK '81). What else can we say? You should all know the trademark Dire Straits sound by now and you should all equally know how intoxicating their sound is on beautiful rich 180gram virgin vinyl. It's akin to drinking a glass of Chateau Latour '61 with a Havana cigar knowing that you have a million quid tucked away in a secret Dutch Antilles account. In other words, it very seldom happens but when it does it's great! MAKIN’ MOVIES has been extensively remastered since it last appeared on vinyl. Tracks include:

Tunnel Of Love - Romeo And Juliet - Skate Away - Expresso Love - Hand In Hand - Solid Rock and Les Boys.
