Hold On/Tell Me-45 rpm 7" disc

TIME 1005-mono

1959 45 rpm 7" disc by vocalist, Do Do Greene. Greene has the distinction of being the first woman to record for Blue Note Records, with her sophomore LP release, "My Hour of Need". Three years before that, however, she released this single, to little fanfare at the time. In recent years, the A side, "Hold On" has become a highly collectible Soul Jazz disc, fetching some pretty high prices in the auction marketplace. "Hold On" was the product of the songwriting team of Rose Marie McCoy & Luther Dixon. Sound of the disc is really ahead of it's time-sounding more like an early 60's product. Song begins with a cool Jazz beat and then Do Do comes in crooning "Doo Doo Doo-Doot Doot Doo Doo Doo". An answering chorus is present, and Greene's great vocal builds to a crescendo by the time the song finishes. For those unfamiliar with the tune, we suggest looking it up on Youtube.

A side label has a piece of masking tape with small writing at top center. B side label has a small remnant of old paper labelling system. Both sides of the label have initials in black marker.

Vinyl surface is covered with light to moderate marks & scratches. However, the disc plays nicely with only moderate surface noise which is mostly buried beneath the sound. Vinyl grade is VG.
