This is the original 1969, stereo album. I bought this record, from new, at Harlequin Record shop in Barnet High Street (the sticker for 99p is still on the front cover).

Considered her best record, ‘Dusty in Memphis’ is a landmark album by Dusty Springfield, released in 1969. It was produced by Jerry Wexler, Arif Mardin and Tom Dowd.

Hoping to reinvigorate her career, Dusty Springfield turned to the roots of soul music. She signed with Atlantic Records, home label of one of her soul music idols, Aretha Franklin. Although she had sung R&B songs before but she had never released an entire album solely of R&B songs. She began recording the album in Memphis, but finished recording the vocals in New York. The Memphis sessions at the American Studios were recorded by the ‘A’ team of Atlantic Records. The back-up singers were the Sweet Inspirations and the instrumental band the Memphis Cats, led by guitarist Reggie Young. The Memphis Cats had previously backed Wilson Pickett, King Curtis and Elvis Presley. The songs were written by, among others, Gerry Goffin & Carole King, Randy Newman, and Barry Mann & Cynthia Weil.

The vinyl is best described as excellent. There are no marks or scratches. There is very little surface noise and it is only noticeable in between tracks. The audio quality is very good.

The cover is in good condition considering its age. The front photo is still very bright and glossy. There are a couple of small creases around about and there is some record imprint on the cover. The edges and corners are generally very good for a forty year old album, but there is a one inch tear at the bottom right edge, where the record has been taken in and out of the cover. There is still a price sticker on the front. It comes with the original plastic/paper inner.

Please note: I am not a professional record seller. I am selling off my vinyl record collection due to space restrictions and downsizing. I have tried to be as accurate and honest as I possibly could with the description of the records. I bought the records because I loved them. They has been played, but well looked after. Now, I’m trying to honestly pass them on to someone who will also love and play them.

Postage will be £2.50, however the item will be sent in a proper LP mailer, with the disc taken out of the sleeve to preserve its integrity. After an excellent suggestion from a recent buyer, I will be inserting a card stiffener as well. I have recently sent some albums by this method and received excellent feedback – so I know it works well.

I do not give discount for multiple purchases. This is because my record mailers only take a single album.

Overseas bidders are probably better off Googling the cost of mailing to their country than asking me. However, mainland Europe is going to be around £5 and the rest of the world is going to around £7.
