Description
JOHNNY CASH
'I WALK THE LINE' 78rpm
It would be a difficult task to adequately describe the effect that Johnny Cash had on country music when he first came on the scene at the end of 1955. This new act from Sun Records was changing country music nearly as much as Elvis, but in a completely different direction.
While some artists clung to the past, Cash was moving to the future with a stripped-down form based largely on his rhythm section, not the fiddles or steel guitars of the past.
This single of "I Walk The Line" and "Get Rhythm" was a double-sided country smash back in June of '56. The top side was a #1 selection on C&W jukeboxes, while the flipside got well into the radio top ten.
This record got so much play on so many jukes, it's nearly impossible to find one that's not gone all grey in the grooves with wear. LUCKY YOU ! This copy was carefully preserved for many years in a radio station's discard pile. I guess it didn't fit in with all the Dean Martin and Perry Como records they were playing at the time. It's got that glorious Sun Records label with the rooster dead center and will be a great addition to your jukebox, or your Sun collection.
