EARTHA KITT - Rare 45 of CY COLEMAN "THE ART OF LOVE" Songs In more years of collecting obscure and rare records related to pop culture, films and theatre than I care to think about, I never saw a copy anywhere of this little gem, starring the late, great EARTHA KITT. Even more unusual it is on DECCA Records, not a label that she was associated with. It seems probable that this may be the only time she recorded for them, or possibly the only ones released. Just a semi-educated guess on my part. As if that alone wasn't enough, both of the songs are themes from "THE ART OF LOVE", a 1965 Ross Hunter Universal Picture, featuring music by CY COLEMAN. There was a studio recording on CAPITOL Records with all the Coleman melodies only. (The cast was an impressive one for its day...James Garner, Angie Dickinson, Dick Van Dyke, Ethel Merman (replacing Mae West),Elke Sommer and Carl Reiner). Two of the Coleman themes were given lyrics: They are: (1) THE ART OF LOVE (lyrics by DON RAYE) (2) NIKKI (lyrics by JAMES LIPTON ( of "SHERRY!" and THE ACTOR'S STUDIO host fame) It would also be an educated guess that the always sexy Eartha's rendition of 'The Art of Love' would have been unlikely to get much if any airplay in those still restrictive broadcast days. It's the lady at her sexy best. Eartha is backed by Benny Golson and his Orchestra. The DECCA record number is 31807.
