Description
ECLECTION self-titled album – original UK Elektra 1968 LP stereo 1st press - Trevor Lucas, Fairport Convention, Fotheringay.
Elektra EKS 74023 stereo, 1968 UK issue, matrix endings A2, B2; laminated gatefold sleeve.
A fine but sadly neglected album from the late 60s, unlike any other folk rock album of the era, featuring eleven original songs by band members Rosen and Hultgreen. There are some great hooks, an outstanding line in two-, three- and four-part harmonies, with the occasional plaintive trumpet part from Rosen (later in Mogul Thrash, mid-70s). Two later members of Fotheringay and Fairport Convention appear, Gerry Conway delivering some superb drumming, Trevor Lucas temporarily hanging up his twelve-string in favour of bass guitar, to great effect.
Cover VG+/EX-
Laminated gatefold cover in sound overall condition. Bottom, top rear and open rear edges excellent, small stretch of wear to front top edge, thumb wear to front open edges, tiny amount of wear to corners. Spine firm but compressed, perfectly legible print; a little laminate loss at the bottom, small spot of wear.
Front and rear panels retain quite a glossy appearance; mild storage wear, some light creases in the laminate, bend and crease to the bottom open corner (which has a small stretch of laminate lift on the rear).
Inside panels have very mild storage wear, with a few light creases and a couple of small foxing spots.
Original poly-lined inner sleeve.
Disc VG+/EX-
Good looking vinyl with some faint surface marks, mostly on side 2. Lovely clean labels, some transparent spindle marks on side 2. Generally great sound and play (no skips, jumps etc), lovely clarity to the vocals and arrangements. Two pops and two clicks noted, some other light snicks or occasional moments of mostly faint crackle from dust or static.
