EDINBURGH FOLK FESTIVAL VOL 1

A rare and sought after 1963 UK original pressing folk gem featuring some of the true greats of the 1960's folk scene, on the unboxed DECCA label, MONO LK 4546

The dead wax matrix numbers are :

Side 1  ARL - 6099 2A with stampers "1" and "C"  at 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock respectively

Side 2  ARL - 6100 1A with stampers "1" and "U"  at 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock respectively

The appearance of the vinyl is excellent+. Completely flat and exuding a lovely jet black lacquered sheen. There are no scratches. When viewed under a bright light, and tilted at the right angle, a few very wispy hairlines and very light surface scuffs come into view (one of which transverses most of side 1 but is barely noticeable)...in fact I would say that "scuff" is too strong a word, more like a slight dulling of the lacquer. There is nothing below the surface or even feelable here. Truly excellent condition vinyl.

The labels are excellent. The only blemishes are just a couple of light, faint spindle trails adjacent to the centre hole on each side.

The front-laminated Robert Stace flip back outer sleeve is very good+.  All edges remain firm and uncreased with barely any scuffing at all. Each corner remains a nicely defined right angle with minimal rubbing. There is some sporadic light laminate lifting on the front side (most noticeable towards the top left corner - see photo) along with some 1-2cm light laminate creases adjacent and perpendicular to the edges and a further mild and diagonal 8cm crease located at the bottom left hand corner. The reverse side has just the hint of some mild age discolouration towards the edges but this is very minor. The top and bottom flip backs are in great shape and fully functional and all writing is perfectly legible with no unwanted written names or doodles. There is just a little, very mild diagonal creasing towards the bottom left hand corner.

Finally, the quality of the audio is superb. There is nice tone and clarity throughout and with no distortion, even on the higher frequencies and at higher volume. Actually side 1 is difficult to fault in any way - no skips or clicks, no background crackle or interference - as clear as a bell! Side 2 is similar but with just some sporadic and occasional very light background static...nothing really and to most people not even noticeable, but I mention it all the same. A terrific listen throughout with plenty of magical folk wizardry by some of the true greats of the 60's British folk scene.

Comes with original plain white poly-lined inner sleeve with no splits or tears, in excellent condition and still fully functional. Note that I always post the record in a new plain white inner in order to protect the original.

In summary a solid EXCELLENT condition copy of this rare and sought after 1963 UK original pressing folk gem featuring some of the 60's true folk greats.

On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl cardboard mailer along with at least two cardboard stiffeners. I take great care in separating the record from the outer sleeve in order to help prevent sleeve damage in transit and I always insert the vinyl, outer sleeve and inner into a clear plastic sleeve, thus adding further protection.

Mint

The records itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items, such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent

The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and /or creasing.

Very Good

The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good

The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

Fair

The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents are torn, stained and/or defaced

Poor

The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents are badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad

The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler
