Come My Fanatics emerged from the damned cosmos in 1997, Electric Wizard making a deliberate rupture from their 1994 debut, as demon vocalist Jus Oborn would push to produce a less studio-obedient record-in-the-raw. Cut in Bournemouth with Rolf Startin and Mike Hurst, its drums stunt, its amps mire its axes in sludge, and its samples were notoriously lifted from video nasties traded in Dorset market stalls, though its quality as UK doom records go also help it avoid total shock-shlock territory. With clear inspiration taken from H.P Lovecraft and biker films, 'Return Trip' and 'Son Of Nothing' trace variety in the vocal register and razor-toothed guitars, the band never once compromising on rev tone. The closing stretch ('Ivixor B / Phase Inducer', 'Son Of Nothing', 'Solarian 13') loosely sketches an escape plan from a poisoned Earth, an extra tinge of bleak environmental pessimism thrown into the haze.
