Formed around 1988 by Bernard Sumner (Joy Division, New Order) and Johnny Marr (The Smiths) to follow a more "electronic" style of music, blending synthesizers with guitars and rock with contemporary dance music. ?First signed to Factory, later to Parlophone. ?Despite huge international commercial success and collaborations with Neil Tennant, the band is on indefinite hiatus since 1999.
