ELTON JOHN
Elton John

UK DJM (DJLPS 406) ORIGINAL PRESSING OF ELTON JOHN'S 1970 EPONYMOUS, SECOND LP IN BEAUTIFUL, BARELY PLAYED CONDITION (the labels are clean with no real spindle wear or signs of use, the vinyl is unmarked and the playback is superb) AND THE RECORD IS PRESSED ON WHAT AT FIRST SIGHT APPEARS TO BE NORMAL BLACK VINYL BUT WHICH WHEN HELD UP TO THE LIGHT REVEALS ITS TRUE PURPLE TRANSLUCENT COLOUR - GREAT COPY
MATRIX: DJLPS 406 A4 / DJLPS 406 B1
THE RECORD IS HOUSED IN THE ORIGINAL SOFT BACKED, MATT AND TEXTURED GATEFOLD SLEEVE WITH INTERNALLY PRINTED LYRICS AND FACTORY SEALED LEFT-SIDE EDGE "Printed and made by the E.J. Day Group, London and Bedford"

Empty Sky was followed by Elton John, a more focused and realised record that deservedly became his first hit.
John and Bernie Taupin's songwriting had become more immediate and successful; in particular, John's music had become sharper and more diverse, rescuing Taupin's frequently nebulous lyrics.
"Take Me to the Pilot" might not make much sense lyrically, but John had the good sense to ground its wilfully cryptic words with a catchy blues-based melody.
Next to the increased sense of song-craft, the most noticeable change on Elton John is the addition of Paul Buckmaster's grandiose string arrangements.
Buckmaster's orchestrations are never subtle, but they never overwhelm the vocalist, nor do they make the songs schmaltzy. Instead, they fit the ambitions of John and Taupin, as the instant standard "Your Song" illustrates.
Even with the strings and choirs that dominate the sound of the album, John manages to rock out on a fair share of the record.
Elton John remains one of his finest records.
In 1971 the album was nominated to the Grammy Award for Album of the Year
In 2003, the album was ranked number 468 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time

Track Listing:
Side 1: Your Song / I Need You To Turn To / Take Me To The Pilot / No Shoe Strings On Louise / First Episode At Hienton
Side 2: Sixty Years On / Border Song / The Greatest Discovery / The Cage / The King Must Die

LABELS: The labels are clean and unmarked with little signs of use - barely played in my opinion
VINYL Visual: The vinyl still retains its deep, practically as-new glossy sheen and is unmarked - beautiful record. When held up to the light the purple nature of this pressing is clearly evident (sorry about the poor quality of this photo but the camera had to be pointed directly into the light)
VINYL Audio: Beautifully recorded album with a crystal clear, gorgeous deep, rich and detailed sound and on playback at a loud volume there are no real problems to report - to be very picky there are some (very) occasional light static ticks on the really quite bits - very minor and nothing at all intrusive - and it is vinyl after all - otherwise, the record sounds sensational, plays beautifully and is critically graded NEAR MINT for audio - I really don't think you'll find a much better copy - I know I haven't heard one
SLEEVE: The first issue soft, delicate, textured sleeve is also in great condition with just a little storage rubbing to the surfaces (showing as light ring on the back) and spine - nothing major - critically graded an EXCELLENT but still one of the finest I've seen
