ORIGINAL UK DJM (DJLPH 423) FIRST PRESSING (May 1972) OF ELTON JOHN'S SUPERB "Honky Château" LP IN BEAUTIFUL, BARELY PLAYED CONDITION (the labels are clean with no real spindle wear or signs of use, the vinyl is unmarked and the playback is superb) AND THE RECORD IS PRESSED ON WHAT AT FIRST SIGHT APPEARS TO BE NORMAL BLACK VINYL BUT WHICH WHEN HELD UP TO THE LIGHT REVEALS ITS TRUE DEEP RED TRANSLUCENT COLOUR - GREAT COPY, AND THEY DON'T COME BETTER THAN THIS

THE RECORD IS HOUSED IN THE ORIGINAL HEAVILY TEXTURED (with a leather-like finish) ENVELOPE GATEFOLD SLEEVE WITH FOLD OVER TAB SECTION, EMBOSSED TEXT, INTERNALLY PRINTED LYRICS AND FRONT 'PASTED-ON' EJ PHOTO, "Printed and made by Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd.”
AND COMES COMPLETE WITH THE ORIGINAL PLAIN WHITE POLY-LINED INNER SLEEVE WITH UK PATENT NUMBER AND FOREIGN PATENTS PENDING TEXT PRINTED IN BLUE INK

Considerably lighter than Madman Across the Water, Honky Chateau is a rollicking collection of ballads, rockers, blues, country-rock, and soul songs.
On paper, it reads like an eclectic mess, but it plays as the most focused and accomplished set of songs Elton John and Bernie Taupin ever wrote.
The skittering boogie of "Honky Cat" and the light psychedelic pop of "Rocket Man" helped send Honky Chateau to the top of the charts, but what is truly impressive about the album is the depth of its material.
From the surprisingly cynical and nasty "I Think I'm Gonna Kill Myself" to the moving ballad "Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters," John is at the top of his form, crafting immaculate pop songs with memorable melodies and powerful hooks.
While Taupin's lyrics aren't much more comprehensible than before, John delivers them with skill and passion, making them feel more substantial than they are.
But what makes Honky Chateau a classic is the songcraft, and the way John ties disparate strands of roots music into distinctive and idiosyncratic pop — it's one of the finest collections of mainstream singer/songwriter pop of the early '70s.

LABELS: The labels are clean and bright with barely any signs of use - hardly played in my opinion
VINYL Visual: The vinyl still retains its deep, practically as-new glossy sheen and is unmarked - beautiful record. When held up to the light the deep red nature of this pressing is clearly evident (sorry about the poor quality of this photo but the camera had to be pointed directly into the light)
VINYL Audio: This is beautifully recorded album with a deep, rich and warm sound and on playback at a loud volume (which is how I always listen to my records prior to listing) there are no jumps, no sticks, no scratches, no surface noise and no clicks/pops. The audio delivery is absolutely sensational and the whole LP plays to just about the highest possible standard with great clarity, no groove-wear, no distortion, sounds wonderful and is very critically graded a strong NEAR MINT for audio - great copy
SLEEVE: The first issue 'envelope' gatefold sleeve is also in beautiful condition and I don't think you will find a better example - it's practically as-new with no damage to the fold-over sections or envelope tab - practically untouched, clean, unmarked and fresh - NEAR MINT
