You are bidding on an ISLAND RECORDS MANUFACTURING LTD, WHITE LABEL, TEST PRESSING With Unused 1st ‘HELP US HYPE ELVIS’ insert of one of the greatest debut albums EVER! - My Aim Is True by Elvis Costello. It comes in an Original, Laminated Version Of the Sleeve of which there were not many made and plain, black inner sleeve. When I acquired this item years ago, I thought that I was just buying the the test pressing in the laminated sleeve but, to my surprise and absolute delight, when I received it I found the 'Hype' insert folded in half inside the sleeve! That was an unexpected bonus as I had not been able to track one down prior to this. I have stored the insert unfolded since then so, the crease is not bad at all. The letters A and B have been hand written on each respective side of the labels. The labels are Island Records Manufacturing Ltd Printed labels. This is the first test pressing of the album and is on Island Records as Stiff had a manufacture & distribution deal with them originally. 'Rocking Horse Shit' doesn't even get close when it comes to describing how rare this test pressing is, let alone the 'Hype' insert!
Condition
Once I received this item, I put the record in an anti-static inner sleeve, kept it outside of the main sleeve to avoid ring wear of the main sleeve. It was all then housed in a protective poly outer sleeve and stored upright on the shelf in my collection, not too tightly packed.
Record - I haven't played this item and the grading is done visually. The vinyl has retained its beautiful glossy appearance and looks Excellent. There is one small mark approx 5mm long on side A from the edge of the record through the run-in plastic to just onto the first track, 'Welcome To The Working Week'. Other than that, it looks great.
Labels - Both labels are in great shape with only the hand written A sand B on the respective sides. Obviously done for reference after it was pressed. There are a few, barely visible, spindle marks on each label but no tears or damage anywhere.
Sleeve - Also excellent condition and not suffering from the shrinkage of the lamination that more often than not occurs with sleeves that have been laminated. In fact, this is possibly the best condition copy of this particular sleeve I have seen since when it was first released. The spine is intact and completely legible and there are hardly any signs of shelf wear. There are two small sections of the lamination on the rear of the sleeve on the edge where the record is inserted that have very slightly come up a little, nothing major. Overall, it's just lovely.
'Hype' Insert - I have graded this as VG+ purely because it was folded. However, having kept it flat since I acquired it, the crease is minimal and the insert is otherwise in Ex condition.
