Is this the rarest Elvis single in the world? Possibly.
What makes this single exceptionally rare is that not only is it on the HMV label with gold lettering on a purple background, but also the centre is designed to be removable and replaceable. In other superficially similar pressings (which sell for around £100), the centre is held in place by 4 tiny triangular points. Once popped for use in a juke box, the centre is almost impossible to put back. In this pressing the centre is held in place by 4 rectangular lugs, which means that the disc can be used in a juke box or on a deck and back again by removing/replacing the centre.
Matrix Numbers: 7XAV 1422-1N, 7XAV 1423-1N
The 'A' side is glossy, with only the faintest signs of wear. The 'B' side shows clear spindle wear and at the end of the track there is a non-sounding 3cm scuff. Both sides play beautifully.
By request I have added more photos, but with my phone camera in daylight, you still cannot make out the faint scuff mark on the 'B' side, which is not across the grooves but more along the grooves. My grading stands and if anything is conservative, but if looks are more important to you than sound then you should not bid.
