This record was made by Elvis Presley, also known simply as Elvis,known as the King of Rock and Roll, he is regarded as one of the most significantcultural figures of the 20th century. Presley's energizedinterpretations of songs and sexually provocative performance style, combinedwith a singularly potent mix of influences across colour lines brought bothgreat success and initial controversy. Presley’s music career began inMemphis in 1954, at Sun Records with producer Sam Philips, who wanted to bringthe sound of African American music to a wider audience. RCA Victor acquiredPresley’s contract and his first single on the label, Heartbreak Hotel, wasreleased in January 1956 and became a number-one hit in the United States.Within a year, RCA Victor would sell ten million Presley singles. Presley wenton to make numerous films and albums prior to an extended Las Vegas concertresidency and a string of highly profitable tours. After years of prescriptiondrug abuse and unhealthy eating habits severely compromised his health, Presleydied unexpectedly in August, 1977 at his Graceland estate at the age of42. Having sold roughly 400 million records worldwide, Presley is one of the best-sellingmusic artists of all time, and widely acclaimed as the best-selling solo artist.
Elvis in Concert is a live album released in October 1977 in conjunctionwith the television special of the same name which featured some of the Presley’s final performances.Videotaped and recorded in June 1977, both the special and album were broadcastand released on October 3, (the single "My Way"/"America theBeautiful" was released the same day) six weeks after Presley's death. Thealbum peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard chart in late 1977. It was certified Goldand Platinum on October 14 and 3× Platinum on August 1, 2002, by the RIAA.
