Mono vinyl Deep Groove Black Label pressing
thought to be a First Pressing from 10/15/1957 with black Rca
Dog and Gramophone labels that say "LONG PLAY" at the bottom of
each label and silver printing for all the credits and titles and
this copy has the very rare original Gatefold Cover with deluxe
Bonus Full-Color Photo Booklet staple bound into the inside
of the cover containing many Elvis photographs and the cover
also has the original Gold Printing on the Spine and this copy
even has an Rca Victor printed Inner-Sleeve & many consider
this LP to be the a sort of Holy Grail of Elvis records
worldwide and it books & sells for $$$

the photos in this album were courtesy MGM Studios
from what was the then-new Elvis Presley motion picture
"Jailhouse Rock" and the labels and cover state that this was
A "New Orthophonic" High Fidelity Recording and our
research leads us to believe that this copy was pressed at
the Rockaway Plant with different labels that have the
album title BELOW the spindle-hole and above the
spindle hole is "New Orthophonic" High Fidelity

~ condition ~


record is in Very Good + Condition* and has been
fully Play Tested and it Sounds Very Good and played
with no bad skips or repeats on our player with sound that's
loud, warm and full but with mellow crackle + soft stray pops
in places and some other light background noise in places
 and there is also a feelable scratch* that causes tics
during "Here Comes..." into "I'll Be Home..." but the sound
is still enjoyable throughout & the labels are bright and
clean with no writing or markings, but the do
have a bit of visible spindle wear

cover is in Very Good Condition with bold bright
bright printing but the cover does have some wear around the
edges including some creasing to the corners and it also has a 3.5" split
to the top opening edge and the beginnings of one at the lower opening edge
and there is also wear to the back edge of the spine, but it's still intact
and the gold lettering on the spine is still readable which is un-
common for this release. there is a date written at the upper-
left-front-corner (12/9/57) and there is a spot at the center
of the top front where a piece of tape was once removed
leaving it a little soiled. the booklet inside is still fully intact
and mostly bright & clean, but there is some spotting to
the white background of some pages + there are also pencil
checkmarks beside some of the song titles on the title page
(could be erased, we think) & there are also some pencil
and pen marks on the last page which pictures and lists
all the Elvis LPs and 45rpm records at the time

the inner-sleeve is delicate & has worn through edges

displays & plays mostly well

this combines the four great tracks from the classic
"Peace In The Valley" EP with other seasonal standards and
popular Christmas classics (Elvis does outstanding versions
of "Blue Christmas" and covers The Drifters' arrangement of
"White Christmas") but this album really comes together with
the lascivious "Santa Claus Is Back in Town" by Leiber & Stoller
here Elvis adding something original on the album which is
considered by many to be the definitive Rock & Roll Christmas
album of the time period right up there with Phil Spector's
"A Christmas Gift to You" as the very best of its genre

now considered among the greatest Christmas albums
of all-time, Elvis' Christmas Album was originally mired in
controversy when first released in 1957 as many Americans
considered Presley a menace to society, an amoral hip-shaking
freak. The idea of this "punk" profaning Christmas and
Christianity (the album, after all, includes four gospel songs)
set off the type of uproar most publicists only dream about
spurred by songwriter Irving Berlin mounting a campaign to
prevent radio play of Elvis' version of his "White Christmas" and
deejays were actually fired for playing the track ~ but Elvis'
Christmas Album quickly ascended the charts and established
itself among the handful of holiday perennials and whether
crooning a solemn classic like "Oh Little Town of Bethlehem"
or rocking through "Santa Bring My Baby Back to Me," Elvis is
clearly in command of the material, often sounding like, he's
having the time of his life. RCA reissued the album many times
adding and/or omitting numbers and re sequencing the album
but this original twelve-song version starts with the raucous
"Santa Claus is Back in Town" and ens with "It Is No Secret
(What God Can Do)" is the absolute best

~ Our Record Condition Guide ~


since everyone has their own ideas about grading the condition
of records, we've decided to spell out how we do it. our descriptions are
also extremely thorough & individually note flaws that a generic condition grade
cannot. we also occasionally assign a + and - for in-between grades

Mint

perfect, never played & usually still factory sealed

Near Mint

nearly perfect with almost no signs of handling

Excellent

the slightest visual wear that in no way interferes with the sound

 Very Good +

light visible signs of handling & wear but well taken care of
and plays with only mellow occasional crackle and/or soft pops but 
nothing interfering with enjoying the record/artwork

Very Good

obviously used & handled, but not mishandled, with no skips,
repeats or bad noise, but with noticeable crackle, pops & soft tics or
artwork defects, but nothing too bad overall

 Very Good -

considerable visible wear & background noise with possible
skips, repeats, tics and cover flaws, but still enjoyable & would
be obviously well-used and somewhat mishandled

So-So

anything below VG- which we rarely sell, except
for really rare records that are worth listing only because
they're so hard to find & sought-after in any condition

Disclaimer

not everyone's turntable sounds & functions the same, but we
have a nice sensitive set-up that makes flaws very obvious to us and we try
to note everything we ear and see. while vinyl is an awesome sounding format,
there is almost always some sort of background noise while listening to a
record. we are just about as picky as anyone, so trust us
but be sure to read our descriptions carefully!
