Description
ELVIS PRESLEY "FROM MEMPHIS TO VEGAS/BACK IN MEMPHIS" 1969 U.S. RCA Victor stereo gatefold double LP. LSP-6020. Contains 2 different limited edition 8x10 b&w bonus photos w/catalog on reverse in MINT condition. VG/VG-.
One-half of the imponderably titled From Memphis to Vegas/From Vegas to Memphis (later issued as separate albums, Elvis in Person at the International Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada), captures Elvis from the summer of 1969, while the exhilaration of conquest was still evident. It's a nice compromise between mere entertainment and the revelatory: The first few songs are old hits to pull you in; the second side opens with a roaring medley of "Mystery Train" and Rufus Thomas's "Tiger Man" and leads to a staggering seven-minute "Suspicious Minds." The studio album, ten tracks from the previous Chips Moman Memphis sessions, are a letdown and, even though some good songs are present such as Percy Mayfield‘s “Stranger In My Own Home Town“, Clyde McPhatter‘s “Without Love (There Is Nothing)” & Neil Diamond‘s “And The Grass Won‘t Pay No Mind“, there are no blockbusters such as the studio version of "Suspicious Minds" which was on “From Elvis In Memphis”. Still a strong set & it’s good to hear Elvis live again after a nine year self-imposed hiatus.
23 tracks- Blue Suede Shoes, Johnny B. Good, All Shook Up, Are You Lonesome Tonight, Hound Dog, I Can’t Stop Loving You, My Babe, Mystery Train, Tiger Man, Words, In The Ghetto, Suspicious Minds, Can’t Help Falling In Love, Inherit The Wind, This Is The Story, Stranger In My Own Home Town, A Little Bit Of Green, And The Grass Won’t Pay No Mind, Do You Know Who I Am, From A Jack To A King, The Fair’s Moving On, You’ll Think Of Me & Without Love (There Is Nothing).
Gatefold cover is intact & retains its original look with overall shelf wear, some edge wear & corner wear. It is still looks presentable with a VG grading. The records play through with no problem but have multiple scuffs & a few hairlines that result in a "hiss" between tracks & a few audible "clicks". They rate a VG- grading. The orange RCA labels prove that it is an original pressing from 1969. The real feature of this record is the inclusion of 2 different 8x10" black & white bonus photos in MINT condition. They are close-up shots from the '68 Special & have an RCA/Elvis cassette & 8-track tape catalog on the reverse side. These photos were only available in for a short time & are getting increasingly hard-to-find.
