"Heartbreak Hotel"/"I Was The One" (RCA) 447-0605 + Rare PS MINT!
These breakthrough recordings couple 2 rock'n'roll classics from Elvis' first RCA Nashville session on January 10th & 11th, 1956. "Heartbreak Hotel" had been given to Elvis' by publicist Mae Axton & he promised to record it for his first RCA release. A wise choice considering the fact that it stayed at #1 for 8 weeks beginning on March 3rd, 1956- thanks to his explosive TV & concert appearances. The "B" side, "I Was The One", in some ways, defined the post-Sun Elvis sound. It also got plenty of airplay, peaking at #19 on the Billboard charts. This pressing is the "Gold Standard Series" issue from 1965- the first time that this title appeared with a picture sleeve. The full color front cover is a seldom seen "Kissin' Cousins" era publicity still, the back has a complete list of "Elvis Presley Singles" through 1965. The record has the mid-60's U.S. RCA Victor black "dog on side" labels on a black vinyl record in great condition. The sleeve has rarely been handled & is in pristine MINT condition. The record is in near MINT, seldom played condition with no scratches. Overall condition M/M-.
