Description
An original, 1955, Memphis pressed copy of Elvis Presley's fifth and final recording for Sam Phillip's Sun Record Co label, "Mystery Train" coupled with "I Forgot To Remember To Forget" complete with Sun Record Co sleeve.
This was arguably Presley's finest work from his seminal, early career, Sun Recording days from July 1954 to August 1955, before Sam Phillips sold Elvis's contract to RCA Victor. Subsequently, he went on to record "Heartbreak Hotel" and sky- rocketed to mega stardom. What makes it so special is that one can barely discern the separate blues, pop and country elements in Presley's rendition of Junior Parker's hit of a few years previous, so well does he bring them altogether as one, surfacing from his musical sub-conscious. From this point, rock and roll was born and a complete new musical genre.
Trail off etchings are 45-U-156X with a "20" just under half an inch to the right ("Mystery Train"), and 45-U-157X with a "20" again just under half an inch to the right ( I Forgot To Remember Etc"). No press/push marks were present on original copies of "Mystery Train" as Sam Phillips had got new equipment by the time it was recorded. (The push marks were, however, present on the first four Elvis Sun releases)
The vinyl plays through with no skips or jumps, and sounds just as an original should with a slight background hiss and good audio. It does have some minor surface marks and scuffs but these do not impinge on the sound. No major defects to the vinyl. The labels are as you see them in the photos, deep, vibrant yellow and brown. All in all, a Very Good grading and complete with Sun Records Co sleeve.
An original Elvis Presley, Memphis pressed "Mystery Train", Sun 223, recorded in 1955, at a very low starting price of £10. I will let the market decide the value of this historic, and seminal, early piece of rock and roll history.
