A very good copy of this rare 1956 UK  1st press groundbreaking Elvis album

Both sides of the thick vinyl (completely flat, by the way) have retained much of their original sheen and have an excellent appearance. Looking closely under a halogen right, and tilted at the right angle, there are a number of wispy hairlines in evidence, however, and a couple of mild surface only small scuffs. On side 1 there is a light 5cm scratch on the first track (Blue Suede Shoes) that does result in 16 background clicks. There are also a couple of other small scratches but these are surface only, non-feelable, and do not affect playback. On normal daylight appearance the appearance and condition of both sides of the vinyl comes across as being excellent with a great sheen in evidence, but under a bright light the hairlines, surface scratches and light scuffing is noticeable.

The quality of the audio is overall VERY GOOD. There is some light background crackle which is certainly noticeable between tracks and during the quieter moments during tracks, and is most noticeable on the run-in grooves leading up to the first track on each side and the run-off grooves at the end of each side. Apart from the aforementioned 16 light "clicks" on Blue Suede Shoes there are no other clicks or pops, and certainly no skips. I suspect that a professional clean would improve the audio quality even further. Despite these blemishes each track still makes for a great listen.

The laminated WRW outer sleeve is in good+ condition also. There is barely any scuffing on the bottom edge but some medium scuffing and creasing is in evidence on the top edge and spine. The front cover photo is excellent with the rich, vibrant colouring still intact. Similarly for side 2 all writing is visible and legible but there is some tearing to the top flipback (see photo). The main fault is the fraying to the opening side, on both the front and reverse side. The fraying (see photo) is accompanied by a number of small horizontal tears though none are greater than 1cm. So not perfect by any means but still presentable and still iconic.

  Each label is excellent. The raised "R" and "T" tax codes are in evidence on the side 1 label and under a bright light you can just detect some very faint spindle tracing - very faint indeed. Otherwise perfect.

It's a labour of love as I play grade each record.

On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl cardboard mailer along with at least two cardboard stiffeners. I take care in removing the record from the outer sleeve and properly protecting it in a separate white inner sleeve in order to prevent outer sleeve damage in transit, and for items that sell for over £40 to non-UK bidders I insist upon postal insurance so please wait for an invoice before paying. I do NOT profiteer from postage costs. I DO take great care in minimising all risk thereby ensuring, as far as possible, that your purchase reaches it's destination in exactly the same condition as when I post it. Richard

Descriptions of any records I sell comply with the Rare Record Price Guide grading guidelines :

Mint

Description: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent

Description: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packag­ing might have slight wear and/or creasing.

Very Good

Description: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable sur­face marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good

Description: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

Fair 

Description: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for prop­erly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

Poor

Description: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad

Description: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.
