ELVIS PRESLEY ROCKS - ORIGINAL SOUTH AFRICA ONLY ELVIS PRESLEY LP – RCA BLACK & SILVER TARGET / TEAL RECORD COMPANY LABEL 31,212
Originally issued late 1950s – UNIQUE / SOUTH AFRICA ONLY issue. This Long Player was not issued in any other country in the world and therefore as such is one of THE Elvis collectable albums.
Sleeve has picture of Elvis taken from the US EP Just For You and UK EP RCX 104 (both issued late 1957). The back cover has a wonderful Elvis Army picture with “Best Wishes Elvis Presley” signature, together with track listings. Back cover states “Pressed by Teal Record Company, PO Box 4105, Johannesburg as Licensee of Radio Corporation of America”. There are two South African record store stamps on the back cover. The sleeve is a flip back type, glossy (but not laminated)
Condition of sleeve is VG. There are very slight visible creases to the front cover and slight signs of record wear on the back cover. The bottom edge of the cover is scuffed. The spine is in excellent condition with no splits or tears etc. The sleeve is printed by the Swan Press Ltd., Johannesburg.
The labels are VG / clear / clean – see scans. The label states “Pressed in SA by Teal Record Co”
The condition of the disc both visually and listening quality is GOOD+. I have listened to both sides of the album before listing and there is a fair amount of crackle as the record has obviously been played a fair amount. However there are no jumps, sticks etc and it has to be born in mind the record is over 50 years old !!
The record comes in a plain paper inner sleeve – I’m not sure if this is the original sleeve issued at the time or a more recent replacement.
Currently being sold by one US dealer at $750 (who states others are asking $2,500) and by a UK dealer at £450. Starting price for this is MASSIVELY lower than those two valuations due to condition – but do remember this is a collector’s item and much sought after doesn’t come up for offer on eBay very often so grab a bargain !!
