ELVIS PRESLEY Rare 45 RPM "Don't Be Cruel" BLANK Label One Side, Gladys Music

Disc: 1997. Black label, dog near top. 45 RPM NEW ORTHOPHONIC HIGH FIDELITY on right side. Catalog number on left side with (Stereo Commercial) directly under catalog number. Gladys Music. Label on the back side is completely blank as it was never intended to be seen on the Platinum Plaque issue, but this was never used on those and is labeled differently than those.  The flip side is assumed to be the song originally on the original issue.  There is a song cut on that side, but the label is completely blank.

This issue differs from Platinum Plaque issues in that it says Gladys Music on the left, with the 1992 issue number on the left as well as a number similar to the 10” 78 RPM single number and date on the left.  The original matrix numbers for the 45 RPM single are etched on the front and back vinyl.

Oddly, this is listed as “Commercial Stereo” on one side and as “New Orthophonic High Fidelity” on the other side.  It has not been played to see if there is any difference.

A possible reason for the existence of this record is that the stock copies were depleted and this filled the final orders. Just speculation. A quick Internet search reveals out of 10 or so copies of the Platinum Plaque for this release, 3 exist with this label and pressing variations.

It is a true rarity.  Search yourself and see how many blank label 45s there are with the Gladys Music label and the Commercial Stereo label on them.

Record appears unplayed and could be argued to be NM to EX.  Paper sleeve might have some bends, etc, but no tears and not worn.  These have been in storage for nearly 20 years.  Shipping in the US is $4.  Insurance recommended.  Shipping internationally is actual plus $1.

This record was brought to my attention and discovered by Paul Dowling of World Wide Records in September 2014. After realizing that the late release plaques have yielded other interesting anomalies, I researched this record towards that direction and it did not disappoint. This record has eluded detection for nearly 17 years, it is rare!
