Description
ELVIS PRESLEY original and very first 1956 UK pressing of 12" LP Rock 'n' Roll with earliest possible 1N matrix numbers
Probably the rarest UK Elvis LP, in all round excellent condition with beautiful, vibrantly coloured outer sleeve; super, virtually unblemished maroon and gold lettered labels, and high quality MONO audio
UK 1956 HMC CLP 1093
Matrix Numbers : Side 1 2XAV 255 1-N Stampers "12" and "GP" at 9o'clock and 3o'clock respectively; Side 2 2XAV 256 1-N Stampers "1" and "GH" at 9o'clock and 3o'clock respectively
This really is the hugely rare, cherished and highly sought after original 1st pressing with all components in excellent order : the thick, heavy, gleaming vinyl, the half-moon flipback outer sleeve, and the original "Take good care..." poly lined, die cut inner sleeve.
Both sides of the thick, heavy vinyl still gleam! The lacquered sheen is fully in evidence and a joy to behold and the overall appearance of both sides of the vinyl is excellent. Not perfect or mint, however - the odd, wispy, strictly surface only, and only really visible under a bright light, hairline does exist, along with the occasional light but visible scuff. There are, however, no deep rooted scratches and nothing which causes jumping, skipping or nasty, loud hissing.
The overall quality of the audio is excellent-. Again, not perfect, however...each side does suffer from some light, background crackle (almost throughout), along with a few background "pops". I suspect that much of this interference, especially since it is background and does not significantly impede upon the overall excellent audio quality, can be remedied by a professional clean. Turn up the volume and the sound becomes timeless...a joy to behold!
Each label is excellent. There are a number of relatively light spindle marks around the centre holes but no unwanted writing or other blemishes. The gold lettering is all intact and perfectly legible and set upon the maroon background is simply iconic.
The half-moon flipback outer sleeve is in truly excellent condition, with no unwanted writing, rips, staining, or fading - remarkable considering that this classic offering is now 56 years of age! The thin spine is completely intact with no creasing, just a few barely noticeable "nicks" are the only blemishes in evidence; and the top and bottom sides are fully intact with just a 0.5cm "nick" at the centre top. The opening sides are slightly feathered but only minimally so and the front photo and rich colouring remains vibrant and impressive in every way, along with the iconic perfectly outlined "HIS MASTER'S VOICE" logo at the top right hand corner. Similarly, the reverse side of the outer sleeve is superb, with the half-moon flipbacks in perfect condition and just a little laminate deterioration towards the two right sided corners. There is the hint of some age discolouration towards the opening edge but all the writing (including the all important "W R W" lettering towards the bottom right hand corner) is perfect.
The original "TAKE GOOD CARE..." inner, poly lined, die cut sleeve with "BRIT PAT APPLIED FOR" lettering located at the bottom right hand corner is near perfect and obviously fully functional.

I have no hesitation whatsoever in grading the overall condition of this offering as Excellent. It's not "Mint" or "Near Mint" but I know that you would have to have search long and hard to find a better copy (if such a mint copy exists at all). Play it loud and enjoy it or, better still, frame it and impress your friends and watch the value of this ground breaking rock 'n'roll gem rocket continue to rocket.
A bit about myself : I have been collecting UK vinyl for over 40 years and have a huge collection. A combination of space requirements and a need to help fund my retirement has prompted me to "rationalise" my record collection and sell some of my much loved gems. My ebay feedback speaks for itself so rest assured that you are buying from a trusted seller and in the very unlikely event that you are unhappy with your purchase just e-mail me and I'll sort out the problem. I offer a "no questions asked" refund policy. If you require any further information, including photos, then let me know and I'll do my best to oblige. There is NO RESERVE on this item, by the way. Richard
