Description

This is an auction for a very rare 10" LP by Elvis Presley, The Best Of Elvis Presley.

This was released by HMV Records in 1957 and has catalogue number DLP1159. This is the original 10" HMV issue and is the 1st press. Please check the pictures for clarification.

Condition: The sleeve has two tears running in from the mouth, I have pictured these for you on supersize. Small lamination creases can be seen along the edges, lamination has peeled at the mouth (in one small area), on the reverse some discolouring marks can be seen with a tiny tear at the mouth. It is complete, the flipback edges are fine, the spine text is fine with the 'S' of Elvis having been slightly distorted by the lamination crease on that edge. All that said, it actually looks in quite decent condition for its age, with the sleeve pressed flat again the curved bottom torn piece will fit back exactly and will hardly show. The pictures will do a better job of describing it but as this sleeve stands only graded at fair, complete but with tears.

This comes with its original 10" patents pending inner sleeve which has some light discolouring but is otherwise fine.

Both labels look clean and brand new. Under close examination a few tiny spider spindle trails can be seen on each side, the centre hole is just about perfect and shows the merest signs of wear. Being really fussy as usual, please check the pics.

The vinyl retains its new shine and looks fine in normal light, under a strong light one long drag mark and numerous hairline scratches can be seen. I have of course test played this through both sides and took the following notes:

Side 1- Superb quiet entry, at the very end of track two and running into track three a very quiet tick can be heard. This soon clears with the occasional quiet crackle heard in places through this track. Last track at the very beginning has a few quiet crackles, again soon clearing with again the very occasional quiet crackle heard. The music itself plays superbly well, with no distortion, fading or dragging, heard whatsoever. The above mentioned feckling is very quiet and certainly heard way in the background. This side has only been played a few times hence there is very little, if any, lessening in sound quality due to wear.

Side 1- Superb quiet entry- one quiet pop in space between track one and two. From track three onwards the occasional quiet crackle is then heard. Like side one these crackles are way in the background and like side one the actual music quality itself is fantastic. Playing with very little, if any, lessening in sound quality, the music plays strong, with no distortion, fading or dragging, heard whatsoever. Played a few times only on this side aswell.

This I have strictly graded at a correct VG+, despite only being played a few times and with certainly better sound quality, have to down-grade this for the occasional audible surface noise, be them quiet and for the fact it does have numerous hairline scratches and one drag mark seen under close examination or a strong light. No doubt graded at near mint by most traders, not in my shop.

You will be hard pressed to find this very rare LP with any better vinyl or labels, a super collectable which comes with a full money back guarantee, so please check my feedbacks and bid with confidence.
