Description
Rare (especially in this condition), original UK 1957 7" single, purple label / silver print:
ELVIS PRESLEY - TRYIN' TO GET TO YOU b/w LAWDY MISS CLAWDY
On the HMV purple label with silver print, catalogue number HMV POP 408
Matrix Numbers : Side 1 - F2 - WW - 8039 - 1N, Side 2 - G2 -WW - 1293 - 1N, with stampers " XT2", "H" and "T1", "GD" on sides 1 and 2 respectively
The record has been played a number of times but the vinyl is in overall very good condition - flat, no beneath-the-surface scratches, no warping whatsoever, and much of the original sheen is still very much intact, with just a few superficial pencil line scuffs and a number of surface only hairlines. The labels are excellent with the purple background and silver writing perfectly intact and no surface blemishes to speak of except for just a few light spindle trails on each side adjacent to the centre hole. The letters "CD" and the word "Chris" have each been written in ink on label side 1 and 2 respectively...the writing is light but is clearly in evidence (see photos). The quality of the audio is good to very good : just some relatively minor, background crackle through most of side 1 and a mild "pop" towards the end of side 1 also. On side 2 the crackle is less in evidence, with no "pops", and the sound quality is impressive. Distortion is minimal on side 1 and negligible on side 2. So, not perfect in other words, but give me a choice between listening to these tracks on this record and on CD and this record wins every time..."Lawdy, Miss Clawdy" is particularly impressive (what a great song that is!).
Comes with original "His Master's Voice" outer sleeve (a rarity in itself), which is still fully functional despite some inevitable creasing towards the corners, and it does have a name and the song titles written in ink on each side.
A very, very nice copy of a timeless classic which influenced so many later singers and bands. Considering that this is now 56 years old I doubt that there are many of the original purple label / silver writing copies in better condition than this.

My record grading adheres to the “Record Collector” guide, which has established a set of standards for the condition of second-hand records. These indicate the amount of wear and tear the disc, sleeve, and other items (such as lyric inserts) have been subject to and the condition that they are in at present. The seven standard condition categories, and descriptions of what each one means, are listed below:
Mint
The records itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items, such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.
Excellent
The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and /or creasing.
Very Good
The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
Good
The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.
Fair
The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents are torn, stained and/or defaced
Poor
The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents are badly damaged or partly missing.
Bad
The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler
