~ condition ~

record is in Vg- condition and has been
fully play tested and it sounds fairly good and
played with no bad skips or repeats on our player
and the sound is warm and full but there is pronounced
crackle throughout as well as pops here and there
including a few louder pops and while the vinyl is
shiny & clean it does have a bit of visible wear
and while the labels are bright and fairly clean
they do have wear & one side has someone's
initials neatly written on it

cover is in very good condition with bold bright
printing & intact seams & no writing or markings
but the cover does have some wear around the edges
and the gold lettering on the spine is worn away in some
places, but "Elvis Presley" and the release number can still
be made out and we note here that the seams of this cover
have been neatly and archivally reconstructed & repaired
all done from the inside and only seen upon close
inspection making for an attractive lp cover

displays & plays ok

~ matrix #'s ~

side one : H2PP6526- 4S    A2       RA
side two : H2 PP6527- 4S    A4       RA

the above is 'stamped' into the dead wax and
side one has an error corrected by an "X" covering
a wrong letter and a "P" (correct letter) above it

~ review ~

this combines the four tracks from the classic
Peace in the Valley EP with recordings of seasonal standards
and popular Christmas classics (Elvis does outstanding versions
of "Blue Christmas" and covers The Drifters' arrangement of
"White Christmas"). But this album really comes together with the
lascivious "Santa Claus Is Back in Town" by Leiber & Stoller at
the sessions so Elvis could have something original on the album
which is the definitive rock & roll Christmas album of the
period right up there with "A Christmas Gift to You"
by Phil Spector as the very best of its genre

~ additional info ~

now considered among the greatest Christmas albums of
all-time, Elvis' Christmas Album was originally mired in controversy
when first released in 1957 as many Americans considered Presley
a menace to society, an amoral hip-shaking freak. The idea of this "punk"
profaning Christmas and Christianity (the album, after all, includes four
gospel songs) set off the type of uproar most publicists only dream about
spurred by songwriter Irving Berlin mounting a campaign to prevent
radio play of Elvis' version of his song "White Christmas" and deejays
were actually fired for playing the track ~ but Elvis' Christmas Album
quickly ascended the pop charts and established itself among the handful
of holiday perennials. Whether crooning a solemn classic like "Oh Little Town
of Bethlehem" or rocking through "Santa Bring My Baby Back to Me," Elvis
is clearly in command of the material, often sounding like, he's having the
time of his life. RCA reissued the album many times, adding and/or omitting
numbers and re sequencing the album. The original twelve-song version
starting with the raucous "Santa Claus is Back in Town" and ending
with "It Is No Secret (What God Can Do)" is the best
