Description

I have decided (sadly) it is time to sell my Elvis Vinyl collection.

The records I have are all original first press in excellent condition and took me several years to find. I will do my very best to give an accurate description (I will not exaggerate their condition). I am not a dealer so please bare with me on the descriptions.

The fourth album up for auction Is,

ELVIS (RCA RD 27120) Mono.

?

This is a genuine March 1959 first pressing we can tell this because only the 1959 version was released on the Black Label/RCA Logo with no tax code and having parallel lines on the label.

?

This information comes courtesy of Elvis UK The Ultimate Guide To Elvis Presley’s British Record Releases 1956-86 (John Townson, Gordon Minto, George Richardson).

This book in itself is a rare collectors item (luckily I have a near mint copy of this).

THE SLEEVE, as you can see from the photographs the sleeve is in what I would class as excellent, infact I would really class it as “EX plus” but this doesn‘t exist in the grading system.(please also see Record Collectors Grading System at the bottom of the page).

There is no missing laminate and no laminate lift. The only real thing that I can “pull” the sleeve on is some absolute minimum corner rubbing and a fine crease to the rear, other than that it is a beautiful example.

I have seen many of these on eBay etc and out of the genuine first press examples many could hardly be classed as even very good.

The record labels are spotless with no writing on them and no spindle “rash” whatsoever.

The album comes with it’s original inner sleeve.

THE VINYL, finally, and the most important in my eye’s is the quality of the sound of the vinyl, once I had the vinyl cleaned on a record cleaner (wet cleaned and vacuum dried), I played it on my “Project Debut 3” turntable (which those in the know will appreciate, is a sensitive turntable), and it sounded excellent, all I can suggest is that this record was not played very often and was well looked after.

There is absolutely no clicking or jumping and no warping. I would class as “EX plus” just like the sleeve (please also see Record Collectors Grading System at the bottom of the page).

This was the first of two album releases in 1959 as Elvis was in the middle of his army service.

The album contained Sun and early RCA material, possibly an indication of RCA’s lack of new material, however for three of the tracks My Baby left Me, I Was The One and Poor Boy it was their first LP appearance in the UK.

The cover photograph was from the “Love Me Tender” era for his hair was it’s natural colour. The rear photograph was a pose of Elvis in his army uniform.

The tracks were listed on the front of the album in yellow script and in their correct running order.

The vinyl has been stored in a Maher anti-static sleeve and then in a card sleeve and finally an anti-dust sleeve, the record sleeve has been stored separately in its own anti-dust sleeve with a card stiffener.

The album was stored upright away from sunlight and heat using dividers in a KAM 25/57 Case Record Box.

The album will be despatched with these sleeves (as above) obviously with extra protection. I will only post this album via “Signed For” unless the buyer wishes to use another method.

For anyone who is genuinely interested in winning this rare album I can send you some hi-res photographs for greater scrutiny, just contact me.

The person who wins this will own a rare piece of musical history, good luck.

Postage for this item will be £3.00 “Signed For” or £5.00 “Special Delivery”

Record Collectors Grading system

Mint (M) The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet. booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records marked as Sealed or Un played should be Mint.

Excellent (EX) The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

Very Good (VG) The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects is acceptable

Good (G) Te record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc

Fair (F) The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.
