NEWSAGENT'S DESCRIPTION

This listing is for the original 1969 US pressing of Elysian Spring, the self-titled debut album by Elysian Spring, a remarkable example of late-1960s underground jazz released on the independent Despa label (No. 349).

This rare pressing was privately financed by a group of Massachusetts college students, with reportedly only 600 copies produced. The Despa label's name is said to stand for "desperate students." The band developed its unconventional sound through free-form improvisation, sometimes rehearsing outdoors in the fields of western Massachusetts. Recorded in Massachusetts, the album features original compositions, including "Glass Flowers" and "Drinkthink."

This is the original Despa pressing, not a later reissue. The sleeve retains its original shrink wrap, opened (see images). The record has been ultrasonically cleaned and play-tested.

Grading Guide

NEAR MINT (NM or M-)

Vinyl looks freshly opened with full gloss and no visible marks, spindle wear, or surface noise. Sleeve is crisp and clean with no creases, seam splits, or ring wear.

Very Good Plus (VG+)

Vinyl shows light signs of use, possibly a few minor scuffs or hairlines that do not affect play. Sleeve may show slight wear, including light edge wear, a small crease, or minimal ring wear.

Very Good (VG)

Vinyl has visible surface wear and light scratches, with occasional surface noise but no skips. Sleeve shows moderate wear such as ring wear, seam splits, writing, or creasing.

Good (G), Good Plus (G+), or Very Good Minus (VG-)

Vinyl plays through without skipping but has varying degrees of heavy wear, significant surface noise, and visible damage or label defects. Sleeve is heavily worn, with large seam splits, major ring wear, heavy writing, and/or tape/sticker damage.

Poor (P) or Fair (F)
