EMERSON, LAKE & PALMER   -    'Brain Salad Surgery'      LP     UK    1973     (cat#   Manticore  MC 66669 / K53501)

Classic prog rock album – UK first pressing.   The very first UK issues of this LP were US pressed discs placed inside UK sleeves.   This may have been something to do with the oil crisis in the UK at that time, but please don’t quote me on that.   Soon after this, regular UK pressed discs were used.

Catalogue number on label;  MC 66669

Matrix numbers;  ST-MC-732991-G   &   ST-MC-732992-G      (G-G matrixes are the earliest).

Die-cut, fold-out sleeves that came with these first pressings had the K53501 UK catalogue number on the spine.

With original thin paper ATLANTIC/ATCO advertising inner sleeve – only available for a short time in the UK.

Original large fold-out die-cut poster.

CONDITION:        I strive to provide an accurate and honest appraisal of condition.  It’s in my best interests to do so.  I WANT YOU TO COME BACK!    All records are checked in good light and play tested at a loud volume (unless described as sealed, brand new or stated otherwise).       STRICT   U.K. MAGAZINE  'RECORD COLLECTOR'  GRADING SYSTEM USED.  See below for the full definitions as provided by Record Collector magazine.

SUPERB PLAYING CONDITION!   Playing condition is graded as EX+, if not better!     Side1 plays great and has just the faintest bit of occasional background surface noise in places – low in the mix and hardly noticeable.    Side2 has some very light background pops during the very quiet section of ‘Karn Evil 9 part 2’, but again any interference is very low in the mix.      Vinyl has had either had very little play or has been extremely well looked after.   Even the majority of the quiet parts play nice and clear with virtual silence in between most tracks.    HARD TO FIND 1st PRESSES IN THIS PLAYING CONDITION.      Buyer will not be disappointed.   NO loud crackle,   NO distortion,   NO loud repetitive pops/clicks,   NO jumps,   NO sticking.

Visually the vinyl is in EX condition.  Several light surface-only marks and some light paper scuffs.    Vinyl still retains its original sheen.

Labels in EX condition.   NO obvious spindle marks!    Would grade higher if not for a crease on side1 label.   This must have happened during the manufacturing process.      NO tears.   NO writing.  NO stickers.

Sleeve is no worse than EX-.    A couple of  small creases on the front near the spine area.   Some edge wear.     NO seam splits.  NO tears.   NO writing.  NO stickers.

Inner sleeve has a 1cm seam split on the bottom edge.    NO tears.   NO writing.  NO stickers.

Poster is EX+.   Mild crumpling only.   Die-cuts are still lovely and neat – NO tears.    Small white mark on Keith Emerson’s face.  This looks like a printing feature rather than any mistreatment.    Poster has clearly never been stuck up on a wall.

PLEASE SEE LARGE PHOTOS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE FOR TRACKLISTING AS WELL AS A GOOD LOOK AT CONDITION.  PHOTOS ARE OF ACTUAL ITEM FOR SALE - NO MISLEADING STOCK PHOTOS USED.

Record Collector Magazine Grading System  - VINYL

MINT The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint

EXCELLENT (EX) The record shows some signs of having been played but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and or creasing.

VERY GOOD (VG) The record has obviously been played many times but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratches. Normal wear and tear on the cover and extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable

GOOD (G) The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeable deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR (F) The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and or deface

POOR (P) The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing

BAD (B) The record is unplayable or might even be broken and is only of use as a collection filler
