This MFSL TARKUS Anadisq 200 heavy vinyl re-issue is a piece of musical history and is the only audiophile pressing of this classic recording. You will be one of the last to own this MFSL 7,500 Pressing Limited Edition Long Out of Print Masterpiece.
The second recording by the originators of classical rock. Originally released in 1971, Tarkus features the sonic array of Keith Emerson's layered keyboard and Car Palmer's percussion supporting bassist Greg Lake's classic voice. This album gave to progressive rock a definition. Rock became more than a 4/4 rhythm, it was an alive style. The beginning of the Tarkus suite has one of the most complex Moog synth sounds, which ELP used a sample in the 92/93 tour. Lake's and Emerson's styles are melted for good in this album.
It seems that they were trying to fuse musical ideas and Palmer is, as always, perfect in everything. Tarkus is one of the best essays on progressive rock, number one in 1971 UK charts. It's true that it's not as united as Brain Salad Surgery, but on the other hand, it's very fluent. The live version of Tarkus in 1973/74 was bigger and very interesting also (available in "Welcome Back My Friends..."). What was the "B-side" of Tarkus has a lot of different genres, from rocky to classical, from almost heavy rock (Bitches Crystal) to pure humored rock and fascinating homages to J. S. Bach in "The Only Way", one of the most beautiful songs they did, followed by one of the most despaired: Infinite Space.
This album is from a time when any music of ELP was a rock treasure. Anadisq 200 Series are mastered with the GAIN SYSTEM and were designed to get the most from your sound system while capturing the incredible realism and presence in the listening experience without the annoyance of surface noise, distortion, hiss and disc warpage.

This MFSL LP was pressed in Japan before Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs eventually pressed their Lps in the United States. The LP was Half-Speed Mastered with the Ortofon Cutting System from the Original Stereo Master Tapes. This MFSL LP has a special static free, dust free inner sleeve and heavy-duty protective packaging. This LP has been Out of Print for OVER 25 years and a bonafide audiophile collectible.
In the Seventies, numerous rock and pop groups attempted to produce a maximum of sound on the stage with a minimum of manpower. The majority of them failed miserably in their struggles to master the Moog synthesizer with its 28 million varieties of sound — but not so for Keith Emerson, Greg Lake and Carl Palmer. Their legendary rock version of Mussorgsky’s piano cycle, which was set down for posterity during a live concert in Newcastle’s City Hall, towers above all other recordings of the kind. Perhaps their success is due to the fact that the trio steered away from the temptation of creating electronic, grandiose sound effects. Their vocals, guitar and drums produced a highly original and contemporary yet soulful rendering.Track Listings
