British prog rock trio Emerson Lake & Palmer return with a remastered reissue of Tarkus, their 1971 landmark album of complex time signatures, virtuosic keyboard work, and heavy rock dynamics across symphonic, multipart compositions. Known for its ultra-strange front cover image of an "Armadillo Tank" designed by artist William Neal, the album became a key reference for prog weirdness: Keith Emerson's synthesizers and piano interplay with Greg Lake's melodic bass and vocals and Carl Palmer's intricate drumming, culminating in the seven-part title suite that opens the album, before 'The Only Way (Hymn)' and 'Infinite Space (Conclusion)' work in various orchestral influences and instruments, including a 7ft Bechstein piano and pipe organ excerpts from Bach.
