MFSL Anadisc 200 Special limited edition. As the musical creation of three immensely talented, yet highly combustible individuals — keyboardist Keith Emerson, bassist/vocalist/guitarist Greg Lake and drummer Carl Palmer — the unit which would eventually gain the acronym of ELP served as one of the go-to examples for punk rock purists against prog's self-indulgent, often masturbatory musical tendencies, yet the band would, at the same time, also compose some of the genre's most beloved and well known moments, while achieving massive commercial success along the way. This radio success would be achieved primarily from the final track to their 1970 self-titled debut, the sensitive, melodic Greg Lake ballad "Lucky Man." For their 1972 album Trilogy ELP relaxed a little, espousing a more commercially oriented and easy-to-listen-to work which soon became a much deserved mass success. After "threatening" audiences with their hard progressive blend of musical talent, advanced ideas, complicated song structures and deconstructionist theories applied to classical music, Trilogy served up tracks like the suite-like "Endless Enigma" and Greg Lake's beautiful ballad "From The Beginning." Witness the changes in the direction of this trio that gave up a little of its rough energy for more carefully polished yet intriguing inventions. A classic!
